CTE Success Gets State Ed Attention submitted by Alta Jo Longware on
01/16/2005
The Regents recently reviewed an independent evaluation that indicated that students in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have a higher passing rate on State Regents exams and a lower high school drop out rate. The study also indicated a need for marketing CTE at the middle-level. Technology education is CTE, and everyone needs to understand the implications that connection provides to our programs. The CTE report can be downloaded at http://www.regents.nysed.gov/2004Meetings/December2004/1204emscvesidd2.htm.
It is not a given that every program, middle or high school will be accepted status quo. We need to articulate, illustrate, and demonstrate, that our technology education programs are some of the best. If you are not ready to showcase your program, NYSTEA is here to help, with the support you need to create a program that meets the standard of excellence. NYSTEA offers professional development opportunities, curriculum materials, and a strong network of professionals who are willing to share ideas, activities, and teaching strategies that will help you make your program a great one.
