Schools Cannot Simply Eliminate Programs submitted by Alta Jo Longware on
02/13/2005
NYSUT has issued a Local Leader Alert concerning the SED approval of changes to Middle-Level Education making it clear that changes will not take effect until September 25, 2005. The current regulations will continue to be in effect for all schools until an application from the district is submitted and approved by the State Education Department.
NYSUT emphasized that “No school or district can make changes to the middle-level requirements unless and until the State Education Department approves an application for Model B or Model C. Schools are required to use shared decision-making procedures (CR 100.11) in developing the application.”
NYSUT has asked that if any district or school attempts to make changes to the middle-level program, that the local leader contact Maria Neira at NYSUT immediately at 1-800-342-9810.
