Outstanding Teachers Recognized submitted by Alta Jo Longware on

NYSTEA Awards Chairperson Steve Poydock conducted several outstanding awards ceremonies during the 42nd Annual Spring Conference held recently in Buffalo, NY. At the Thursday Awards Luncheon, NYSTEA proudly recognized eight Regional Teachers of the Year including: Southeastern District Region 33- Mike Brondolo, Western District Region 17- Joe Leogrande, Northeastern District Region 10- Joe Coakley and Region 37- Don Martel, Metropolitan District Region 24- George Quick, Central District Region 9- Bob Jones, and Far Western District Region 29- Fred Nash.
NYSTEA also recognized several individuals whose efforts were key to the success of the New York State Professional Development Collaborative (NYSPDC) workshops. The following people were presented certificates of appreciation: Leah Akins from Dutchess Community College, Jim O’Brien from Somers High School, Bob Decker from Mohawk Valley Community college, Mark hardy from Oswego State University, Don Martel from Northville Central School, don Murphy from Rochester City School District, Ellena Reda from Dutchess Community College, mart Waffle from Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Edward Zak from Saquoit Valley Central School, and Peggy Weeks from Hofstra University.
The 2004-05 NYSTEA Grant Winners were recognized for their innovative classroom project proposals. There were three $500 Mini-Grant recipients; Greg Hasse from Fredonia Central School, Maurice Lepine from D.S. Ray Middle School and Ray Sussmann from Felix Festa Middle School. The $1000 Competitions Grant recipient was Patricia Poggio, to host the First LEGO competition at Longwood Central School on Long Island.
NYSTEA also recognized retired Technology teacher Joel Kaplan for his ongoing contributions to Technology education. As a PITSCO representative, Joel was presented an etched plaque in Appreciation Award for Continued Support and Dedication as a Sustaining Member.
All of these individuals are commended for their commitment to Technology education and for their contributions to the success of Technology programs throughout the State.
