 News from the President
2007 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams submitted by Thomas Frawley on 03/26/2006
Dear Educator:

What do the following inventions have in common?
* Watermelon-ripeness evaluator
* Pothole detection and filling device
* Inspection-friendly luggage

They were all developed by high school students through InvenTeams!

InvenTeams (http://web.mit.edu/inventeams) is the Lemelson-MIT
Program's national initiative to foster inventiveness among high
school students. InvenTeams asks teams of students, their teacher(s)
and mentors to identify a problem to address with an invention...and
funds them up to $10,000 per team to develop a prototype!

Popular themes of projects include assistive devices, consumer
products, the environment, transportation, and health and safety.

InvenTeams is open to high school science, mathematics and technology
teachers (and teams of teachers) at public, private and vocational
schools and their students. Last year, we received less than 100
applications and awarded 18 grants. Next year, we will award up to 20
grants.

Apply on-line today: http://web.mit.edu/inventeams

The deadline for 2007 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams is May 5, 2006.

* Grant size: up to $10,000, including $2,000 teacher stipend
* Number of grants: as many as 20
