Register now - CORSE 2006 submitted by Thomas Frawley on 04/15/2006
The Institute on the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT) is
pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 6th annual
Conference on Remote Sensing Education (CORSE 2006).

When: June 26-30, 2006

Where: IAGT, at Cayuga Community College, Auburn, NY

CORSE 2006 will bring together K-14 educators from around the US to
learn about geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning
systems (GPS) and remote sensing imagery. Following a three-day
intensive exploration of GIS and GPS, participants work in teams to
develop lesson plans that tie the use of these technologies to
service-learning projects in their communities. As in the past, CORSE
will consist of both introductory and intermediate-advanced tracks, to
accommodate the various levels of GIS expertise of conference
participants who will not only receive a week of intensive training in
GPS and GIS, but will also be amongst a cadre of educators with whom
they can share ideas.

Thanks to generous support through our training partners at the
Mid-Hudson Institute for Service Learning, we are able to offer a
limited number of scholarships for teams from New York State, which will
cover registration, lodging, and an ArcView site license for the team's
school. A team should consist of an educational professional, a student
(grade 7-12), and a local official or representative from a
community-based organization. Teams led by 4-H staff are also encouraged
to apply.

A registration fee of $300 covers costs of the 5-day conference. This
fee includes all books and materials used in the conference, a GPS
receiver and PC cable for downloading data to your computer, as well as
an opportunity to purchase ArcView 3.3 software site license at a
greatly discounted rate. Meals are included in this fee, as well.
Transportation to and from the Holiday Inn to Cayuga Community College
will also be provided for participants who are not commuting from home
during the conference. College and graduate credit is available.

Please feel free to share this information with colleagues or post to
relevant listserves, and encourage your colleagues and co-educators to
attend.

Hope to see you at CORSE 2006. Please do not hesitate to contact me if
you have questions or would like more information.
