A wonderful banquet followed the Induction Ceremony featuring keynote speaker Thomas A. Frawley, NYSTEA President.
Frawley spoke about what it’s “really” like to be a Technology teacher, what’s needed for future growth of the profession and what's happening now to advance the profession.
Frawley stated that you first have to love kids - all who sit before you in the classroom. Second, you have to have a sense of humor. Finally, you have to be willing to live your life and feel all of it's ups and downs. You have to be a willing participant in the lives of your kids.
Frawley stated that the profession needs good teachers who are active in local, state and national Technology education associations. He went on to detail some of the organizations currently working to advance the profession, such as the National Alliance of State Science and Math Coalitions, Triangle Coalition and ITEA's TIDEwatcher Listserv.
At the conclusion of his talk, Frawley was presented with a copy of the book, "Teacher Man" (Frank McCourt) by SUNY Oswego's Rich Bush. It was a delightful evening with a good time had by all.
