A rare opportunity to learn more about the History of Technology will occur in mid September as Dr. Donard de Cogan, University of East Anglia, United Kingdom will be in the United States to offer presentations on the following topic:

COMMUNICATION ACROSS THE ATLANTIC - The Great Transatlantic Cable
An historical perspective of technical innovation

IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) New England Branch
6:30pm Lecture: Brian Bowers
8:00pm Dinner (reservations required $25 per person) (OPTIONAL)

Saturday September 16th Schenectady Museum
9:00am Lecture: Donard de Cogan
10:30am Coffee and Exhibits
11:00am Lecture: Edward Owen

The speakers are both very knowledgeable about 19th Century electrical technology and will speak as follows: Brian Bowers on Friday evening - focusing on the people involved and Donard de Cogan as the first speaker on the Saturday morning.

Dr. Donard de Cogan, Reader in the School of Computing Sciences at the University of East Anglia, will speak on The Interaction between Business and Technology in Early Transatlantic Cables. The establishment of the Victorian internet, the world network of submarine telegraph cables had as profound an impact in its time as today's Internet is having for us.

Pizza, soft drinks, and water will be available at no cost to attendees.
