INCREASE YOUR ENERGY IQ
A Free, Hands-on, One-Day Professional Development Workshop for Middle School and High School Teachers (Gr. 6-12) in All Subject Areas
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY, OLEAN Francis Hall - San Damiano Room · Lunch provided · Free curriculum materials and kits · Sub stipend of up to $70 provided, if needed Are you and your students up to date on current energy-related events, facts and figures? Do you know how energy use impacts our everyday lives and the environment? The Energy Smart Students Program is a professional development program in energy education for classroom teachers sponsored by the New York Energy $mart Program.
This workshop expands on content previously offered in our introductory workshop. It is appropriate for ESS-workshop veterans, as well as teachers who are new to our program, so please help us spread the word about it to your colleagues.
Participants will receive free curriculum materials and kits, developed by the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, and correlated to New York State Learning Standards. Hands-on activities are derived from the curriculum provided. Workshop Summary:
Participants will learn about the New York State, national and global ‘Energy Picture.’ Hands-on group activities will reinforce and expand on topics including: Energy Forms and Sources; Energy End Uses; Environmental Impacts of Energy Use; and The Latest Research on Climate Change.
In the afternoon, you will explore fundamental concepts of energy by performing hands-on experiments at six different stations. You will learn how energy is transformed from one form to another. This workshop is guaranteed to raise your Energy IQ — and increase your ability to promote action among your students!
