Energy Education Grants submitted by Thomas Frawley on 12/06/2006
Teachers, do you have an energy efficiency, conservation, or renewable
energy project or event in mind for your students? Do you want to help your
school and community to save energy? Do you need funding to make this
happen?

The New York Energy Smart Students program is pleased to announce 50 (fifty)
Energy Education Grants of up to $400 each for K- 12 educators in New York
State, who provide the best plans for use of the grant funds. These grants
are designed to spur creative approaches to energy education in the
classroom and community. They will fund innovative projects that increase
students' energy knowledge and awareness while providing student leadership
opportunities.

K-12 educators (public and private), who teach in communities served by one
of the State's investor-owned utilities (Central Hudson, ConEdison, NYSEG,
National Grid, Orange and Rockland, and Rochester Gas and Electric) are
encouraged to apply.

Consider ideas such as:

- Procuring supplies for hands-on classroom activities related to energy
efficiency or renewable energy

- Sponsoring a student-led Energy Fair as a school or community event

- Taking your class on an energy-related field trip

- Purchasing energy-related DVD's for classroom use and/or school lending
library

- Sponsoring an energy-related contest or competition for students, with
energy-efficient prizes

- Providing community service through students assisting the needy in making
low-cost energy improvements

- Funding a student team's participation in an energy-related event or
competition
